Year 3
Welcome to Year 3!
We have an exciting year ahead of us. We are all really looking forward to the interesting and engaging work that we will be producing together.
Year 3 are called St Luke class and we will learn lots about St Luke during the year.
Throughout school, our main topic is “Leaving a Legacy” and the focus for Year Three in the Autumn term will be on the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. We will be finding out about the way people lived then and using it to help us in our English work.
In Science, we will be learning about rocks and soils as well as looking a little bit at fossils.
In Maths, we start with place value and number, but we will also start to have a greater emphasis on learning the times tables.
In English, we will be writing stories and information leaflets. We will also be reading the book The Stolen Spear by Saviour Pirotta. There are other books in this series which the children might enjoy. In addition, the class will choose a class reader to enjoy each day.
Homework
There will be a spelling test on Friday and the children will be given their new spellings on the Monday before. Please make sure your child practises their spellings every day.
Children will be bringing reading books home and it is still really important that the children are reading every day. Children's reading diaries will be checked on Fridays. If you could ensure you sign their book to show they have read and then they will receive points for doing their homework. The children all have a login to Times Table Rockstars and they should be completing 30 mins on the garage or studio each week. Points are also given for achieving this each week and checked on a Friday.
PE
Our PE day is Wednesday. On these days, we are asking children to come into school in their full PE kit, including trainers. Please can the children make sure they have suitable outdoor clothing (trainers, jacket, jogging bottoms / trousers).
Water bottles
Please can all children make sure they have a labelled water bottle with them each day; they are welcome to fill their bottle up throughout the day at school.
Getting outside for fresh air is important for all children, whatever their age and we will endeavour to do this regardless of the weather, so please ensure children have a waterproof coat with them at all times. All their belongings will be kept in their own lockers but it is still vital all coats and jumpers are clearly labelled.
A member of the Year Three team will be at the door before and after school each day to answer any queries or appointments can be booked via the school office. The Year Three team will be working hard to ensure the children have a happy, productive and successful term. If you have any questions, please email these to schooloffice@sacredheart.peterborough.sch.uk and these will be forwarded to us and we will get back to you.
Thank you for your continued support.
