Autumn term
Welcome to your first term at Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School!
We hope you have had a lovely holiday and are ready to start learning lots and having fun at school.
Settling in
The first half term will be about settling the children into the routines of school life and making lots of new friends. We will begin to get to know each other, which fits perfectly with our first topic ‘Amazing Me’.
Phonics and early reading
This year we will be introducing phonics and reading using the Little Wandle scheme. The children will start learning initial sounds and learning how to blend to read words. After a few weeks, the children will start the reading scheme. Children will bring home a reading for pleasure book, which they may change as often as they wish. Following the final reading session in school on a Thursday, the children will bring home a ‘celebration’ book to read with you. The celebration books must be returned on the following Monday. Please write a short comment in their reading record books when you read with them each day.
More communication about reading books and our phonics scheme will follow.
Tapestry online learning journal
Within the next few weeks, we will be sharing information with parents to explain our use of the Tapestry online learning journal. This is a fantastic way to see what your child has been up to at school and to add your own observations about the things you do at home.
School lunches
If your child is having school lunches, please look at the options and choose with your child at home, using the Aspens website. This saves time at school and ensures the children will have a meal they will enjoy.
P.E.
Our P.E. day in Reception class will be on a Friday. Please ensure your child comes to school wearing their PE kit on Fridays, starting on the 20th September.
Questions and queries
We are sure your children will be very happy at Sacred Heart, however if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for your on-going support, we are looking forward to working with you all.
